And almost every project has its flavor, which attracts the audience to this title. For example, the Metro series is notable for its locations and origins, Fallout is simply a legend, and DayZ has already been discussed.
But let me try to be objective and try to make the best post apocalyptic games more or less relevant at the beginning of 2020 that you, as a fan of the genre, should play.
Borderlands Gaming Series
This game series has become a universal “favorite” after the developers presented it to a wide audience. First of all, the project has won the respect of fans of the genre due to the convenient and slightly arcade shooter shooting, heaps of various loot, charismatic characters, and a pleasant visual style. Yes, there is no strong plot here, but it is in the shooter and is not the main component of success!
“Borda” is not entirely about best post apocalyptic games? Well, why not. It’s just that the main events take place not on Earth, but Pandora … Which, by the way, is very similar to the “cradle of humanity”. Is that the landscape is different, but the concentration of psychos per square meter is off the scale.
Doom 2016
Here, too, is not quite best post apocalyptic games, but very similar. The Executioner of Doom goes straight to the bowels of the Underworld to prevent the infernal creatures from breaking through into the human world. To do this, you have to fight with a whole legion of demons, each of which … Well, let’s say, not the worst enemy. But the horde is much more serious, and you will have to sweat to bring old Doomgay back to Mars.

At the very least, New Vegas deserves a place here because of its color and atmosphere. Perhaps this game, as I said, is the best post apocalyptic games representative of the 3D gaming universe.
As for the plot, everything is simple. You are an ordinary courier who was unlucky enough to be in the Vault during the war, but somehow you survived it anyway. You are used to survive, but it will soon be necessary to go to extreme measures, as the situation in the Wasteland becomes even tenser.
Mad Max
Another person involved in previous posts, and again a classic of the genre. Mad Max is one of the first franchises to take the doomsday genre to the next level. And therefore, I just cannot bypass it when compiling the best post apocalyptic games on the PC.

The Metro game series, without which the compilation of any best post apocalyptic games on the PC among Russian-speaking players, is indispensable, is a cult universe. The authors from 4A Games took as a basis the novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky, which describe the life of Muscovites who, by some miracle, managed to survive a nuclear war.
Of course, the plot is hackneyed and, to some extent, boring. But the presentation makes every Metro game as atmospheric as possible. And, given that the creators are their own, so to speak, relatives, I would like to applaud them once again for making such a huge contribution to the development of the domestic industry.
Dead Island
Imagine arriving at the coolest resort on earth to relax and have fun. But then there is an outbreak of a zombie virus and all your friends turn into bloodthirsty creatures. And you have to run as fast as possible into dense forests, into the jungle, hoping to hide and not breathe so that the dead will not find you.
The only salvation is the escape from the island, which has become a trap for thousands of people. At one point, this piece of paradise turned into a wasteland, through which predators who do not know fatigue roam. And then some marauders are sometimes worse than zombies. In a word, it will be fun – that’s for sure. That’s just from this fun, the head can split, in the truest sense of the word.
I Am Alive
The huge metropolis was destroyed at one point by a powerful earthquake. Thousands of people either died or went missing, and the main character also did not escape this fate.
State of Decay
The main essence of State of Decay is to build a shelter that will help you escape from the invasion of hordes of zombies. Finding yourself in the open world (which, by the way, stretched for 16 square kilometers), you need to explore the surroundings, rescue other people under the control of bots and attend to the search for supplies and resources.
The project has a deeply developed management system for its camp. You will spend most of your time on it. You will control a whole group of survivors, each of which has its useful skills and characteristics.
Although the State of Decay is aimed at a single playthrough, it is not boring due to the liveliness of the world and the huge amount of content. Wasteland 2
Five years have passed since the war with artificial intelligence wishing to destroy the world. Desert Rangers are trying to fix their lives until they catch a strange radio signal. Having sent one scout to obtain valuable information, a group of heroes soon discover his corpse. You will need to investigate the tragedy and understand that the dangers for survivors after a thermonuclear war are gaining momentum.
In general, we have a prettier Wasteland, which I could not help but include in the list of the best apocalypse games on PC. The graphics have been improved and the gameplay has received more mechanics, providing players with an even greater set of functionality.
Dying Light
The open-world action game Dying Light from Techland is pretty. In addition, the project brought something new to the genre, namely a cool parkour system. The zombies turned out to be very dangerous and intelligent, as in other games, and the plot also did not disappoint.
You are one of the survivors of the outbreak of the virus that covered the small town of Harran. Most of the people quickly turned into the bloodthirsty dead, and the government did not come up with anything else but to block the unfortunate and protect themselves from the problem with high walls. You need to get a file with research that will help you defeat the virus. But first, you will need to develop a plan for withdrawing from the settlement, which is rapidly rolling down the drain.
Crossout
For some reason, it is generally accepted that if Crossout is present in the top post-apocalyptic PC games, then this is necessarily an advertisement. The game turned out to be quite good, as it offers, although depending on the grind, quite interesting gameplay. Here you can create your transport, hang it with cannons and shoot down the crap from other players in endless network battles.
The main emphasis in Crossout is made on the manipulation of the constructor, in which the creation of the car takes place. Using any metal debris and parts, you can make a real wasteland monster. And after that, sitting behind the wheel, burst into the battlefields and destroy everyone who also decided to ride their cars to earn money.

The best post apocalyptic games entire STALKER game series is tied to immerse players in the atmosphere of survival. Based on the history that the authors took as a basis for creating projects, the idea of creating a kind of “Exclusion Zone” on the territory close to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was taken. More precisely, to what was once a station. After the explosion, the huge area turned out to be uninhabitable, but very attractive to adventure seekers.

After the events of the second part, 24 years have passed. The private military company CELL took over tremendous power and turned into a corporation of terror. The main character, who has already liberated the world several times, is forced to take up arms again. Now his opponents will be not only the surviving cephalopods but also people who do not want to obey the old order.
Kenshi
Kenshi is a controversial project. Although the game received mostly positive reviews, there are fans to criticize it. First of all, they criticize the mediocre graphics, but true fans of the RPG genres have long realized that the picture is not the main factor in a successful game.
The main events in Kenshi unfold in a post-apocalyptic world that stretches for a good 870 square kilometers. All this territory is inhabited by warlike (and not so) groups, with which you will have to deal. You can write your true story, becoming here either a respectable citizen or the most wanted criminal.
Death Stranding
The planet was destroyed by the “exit of death” – as people called the phenomenon when the other world began to break into the world of people. Entities from the other world began to kill everyone in a row, after which the surface of the Earth turned into a rather dangerous place.
Sam Bridges is a courier who delivers packages from one inhabited settlement of people to another. And it was he who was destined to unite all the cities into a single network, which would make the scattered people of America (more precisely, what was left of it) united again.
In general, I liked the game. Although many people call it a postman simulator, I saw deep connotations in the story told by Kojima. The game designer should be given credit for the fact that he created something very unique, albeit a little boring. But the plot … Mmmmm, you should feel it all personally!
The Walking Dead: Telltale Series
The visual novel The Walking Dead: Telltale Series was intended to immerse players in the atmosphere conveyed by the legendary AMC series. “The Walking Dead” became a cult project, which, however, gradually slipped into an ordinary soap opera. But now we are talking about the game, which turned out to be very, very worthy.
You have to decide the fate of several characters who are trying to survive in a world flooded with the living dead. At certain points in the gameplay, you have to make a choice, and then some of your charges will certainly survive, and some will not. We will mainly deal with searching for objects and watching cut scenes, but there are certain action scenes in the project.
Gears of War
Humanity has colonized several worlds, going beyond the boundaries of their home planet. During research on the planet Sera, people encountered an unknown enemy, who was later nicknamed the Locust. Locusts mercilessly destroyed any life, and therefore earthlings had to defend their legal territories and the lives of civilians, solving problems by force.
Squads of operatives were used as the main strike force on Sera. These tough fighters, one of which is your hero, are the last stronghold on the way of a superior enemy. You have to fight and fight with a very dangerous opponent who does not forgive mistakes.
