Outlast – The Passage of the Main Missions
Now we turn to the direct passage of the main missions and acquaintance with the storyline. In addition to meetings with dangerous opponents, you can find notes at locations that will clarify individual details of the story.
Outlast events begin with the arrival of the protagonist Miles Upsher at the clinic gates, which are closed. To get into the building, we have to go around the complex on the left side, making our way to the territory of the hospital through a hole in the fence.
Once inside, we examine all the rooms. At a certain moment, our first enemy begins to break into the room, which, probably, caused the death of several people, whose remains we find right there.

Outlast Walkthrough: After the psycho threw our hero to the first floor, Miles loses consciousness. Having come to our senses, we begin to search for the key to room “A 114”. To do this, we return to the security room, and at this moment one of the patients turns off the electricity. To return the light, we need to get into the basement, but then the enemy bursts into the room, and we have to occupy the locker to wait until the threat passes.
Having got out to freedom, we pass into rooms with gas pumps and a generator, while bypassing the bruiser. After activating the devices, we return to the control room, in which someone attacks us again.
Next step on Outlast Walkthrough, Inmates from the prison block are selected to freedom, while we still need to inspect all the premises. We make our way to the second floor and move to the airlock, with the help of which we go to the next block. Entering a room with a bloody inscription on the wall, we slip into a hole in the floor and find ourselves in front of a steel door.
Inspect the area and find the button, after which the psycho attacks you again. Hide in the closet and, after waiting for the enemy to leave, go through the opened door to the airlock. At this time, a fire begins, which leads to an explosion, throwing our hero to the first floor. Now we need to find a workaround to the shower room, without catching the eye of another psychopath.
After wandering a little more on the floors, we get to the right place and jump into the sewer. Further, you will find dark tunnels through which you can get out to freedom. In the branches from the main passage, you will find valves that open flaps that block the further path.
Having passed all the obstacles, we find ourselves in the men’s department of the hospital. We go around the barricade through the ventilation hole and we pass into the operating room (all other doors will be locked). After that, we are attacked by a whole crowd of psychos, from whom we need to escape by running along the corridors and rooms.
However, it will not be possible to completely avoid the danger – Miles will be in the hands of a doctor who will conduct a bloody experiment on the hero. As a result, the journalist loses his fingers, but when our captive leaves the premises, we will have the opportunity to escape.
Having found the nearest handbrake, we activate the fire extinguishing system, and after that we interact with two dampers and a button, opening a passage to the street.
This stage is short and serves as a transition to the next location – the women’s department of the hospital.
The hero manages to find Martin’s father.
Once again, finding ourselves in the administrative block, we pass into the chapel, focusing on the bloody footprints.
Miles sees how psychopaths burn Martin’s father on the cross, and the hero himself finds himself in an underground laboratory. We examine the surroundings and find a way to turn off the electricity, which leads us to the death of a man in a capsule. The reporter continues on his way to the exit, but near the door, he collides with the special forces and dies at the hands of the operatives who arrived in time.
The meaning of the ending
To understand the true meaning of the Outlast ending, you need to not only go through the story missions but also carefully read the notes you come across along the way. It is from them that we find out that Dr. Wernicke is behind the bloody events in the clinic, and all this horror is controlled by the leadership of the CIA.
The task of the doctor was to study the transformation of living cells in the human body, which led to terrible mutations. The CIA gave an order to equip an underground laboratory, the staff of which was supposed to develop special nanobots – with their help, the Americans planned to find an innovative way to deal with the unwanted.
Thus, Michael becomes infected with nanobots, whose fate remains unknown after the ending of the Outlast main plot.
Outlast Walkthrough: Whistleblower add-on
Outlast Walkthrough, The Whistleblower add-on gives us additional insight into Outlast’s overall storyline.
The central character of the DLC is Waylon Park, who wakes up in an unfamiliar room in front of a huge TV screen. Strange pictures are shown on it and we learn that this story unfolds a day before the moment when Miles Upsher is in front of the doors of the clinic.
It was Waylon who was the one who gave Miles information about the asylum and the horrors that were happening in it. After that, Park is beaten and locked up in the hospital, making him another patient.
Waking up, the hero frees himself, takes a camera in his hands, and goes in search of a way out of the trap. Trying to hide from the cannibal, we find ourselves in the crematorium, where the enemy grabs us and pushes us into the stove. Having broken through a brick wall, we get out to freedom and move up the stairs, make our way through the ventilation shaft and find ourselves in a hospital. Running through the corridors again, trying to escape the psycho. We try not to catch the eye of the enemy, simultaneously turning off the gas supply in the gas room.
After the start of Outlast Walkthrough, Through the street we pass to the prison building – inside you will meet psychos, whom you can not be afraid of. Over time, we find ourselves in the radio room, in which another enemy attacks us. Climb behind the table to save yourself, and when the enemy attacks again, you need to run down the corridor to the courtyard to the administrative block.
Once in the attic, we pass the sewing workshop, the professional block, and the administrative part of the complex. In the end, Waylon manages to escape and get to the car, meeting the ghost of the late Miles on the way.
Thus, the two heroes meet and we complete the full walkthrough of Outlast, having learned why Absher, in general, ended up in the clinic.
